The owners of a house that stands in the middle of an avenue built in a residential area in the city of Nanning, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, refuse to demolish the house for more than a decade.

As the owner of the house refused to make a deal with the authorities to expropriate the property, construction began anyway. Chinese law prevents the demolition of a property without an agreement.
Typically, residents refuse to budge because they consider inadequate financial compensation. The house was part of a village that was moved in the late 1990. Without an agreement, the house was left in the road.
A spokesman of the urban development department of Nanning said that the requirement of the owners does not fit the remuneration policy and that the parties are still negotiating.
